This post was created by my colleague, Scott Cabell, who graciously allowed me to post it on my blog. Like me, he is a college student at a non-target school trying to get his foot into the banking/finance industry. I empathize with Scott’s frustration regarding the juxtaposition regarding higher learning in many corners of the western world. Often, you’ll hear such phrases as, “It doesn’t really matter where you go to school as long as you’re a good student.” I have realized this argument is completely false. In highly competitive industries, a recruiter looking at two students with identical resumes except for institution attended, will choose the student who attended the university with the strongest name recognition.
