Oheka Castle Owner Speaks Publicly For First Time Since Shooting

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Two weeks after being wounded by a masked gunman, the owner of Long Island’s Oheka Castle is speaking out publicly for the first time.

Gary Melius released a seven-minute video statement Monday.

The 69-year-old developer and major political donor was in his Mercedes-Benz in the Gold Coast estate’s parking lot when a masked gunman shot him once in the head on Feb. 24.

In the video, Melius, who was released from the hospital last Tuesday, has a protective patch over his left eye and bandage on his scalp.

He said he is thankful for his family and is recovering.
