A promise to transform manufacturing in the northern suburbs

If re-elected in March, the Labor party pledges to revamp the manufacturing sector in the northern suburbs (like they haven’t had twelve years to do that already). Over a four year period this pledge would include: $2 million to support a new co-operative research centre, $400,000 to the Polaris Centre in Mawson Lakes for services and entrepreneurs and a pilot scheme to install solar panels on public housing properties.

Recently General Motors have announced closure of Holden’s car-making operations by 2017, (or even earlier according to the Premiers own advice and analysis). When Holden shuts it’s doors, the door will also be closed for 2900 jobs. Shadow Treasurer Chris Bowen says that “the loss in tax revenue, the unemployment payments right across the board will see the Australian government revenues hit, and potentially hit hard.”

Employment opportunities in the manufacturing sector don’t have a clear future, so can the Labor…
