Galway could be losing out on thousands of jobs in the manufacturing industry due to a shortage of suitable properties that is preventing major employers from relocating here, according to a local TD.
The city has excelled in attracting multinational companies from the ICT and medical technology sectors in recent years but has failed to benefit from a similar influx of industrial manufacturing jobs.
Galway West Deputy Brian Walsh has said a shortage in the supply of suitable industrial property in the city is to blame, and has called on the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation to address the problem through the IDA.
“We all know that Galway ticks all the boxes for prospective employers when they look to set up an operation in Ireland. We have an exceptional workforce, good connectivity and infrastructure, and an excellent quality of living,” he said.
