Just lately I seem to have been spending much of my time marking essays, reports, and such like. I note that there is supposed to be a marking boycott from the end of April to force the employers to the negotiating table so that we might share in the largesse that is their own pay awards. A recent article in the Daily Mail of all places, highlighted the contradiction of VC’s giving themselves 5% pay awards while defending their decision to limit us to 1% yet again.
While getting slowly comatose from marking the other day, I had a sudden revelation, perhaps, like large organisations, the salaries of VC’s should be voted on by the shareholders? That way both staff and students would get an opportunity to decide if VC’s actually deserved pay awards over and above those they control.
